Milk Toast
Milk Toast (milk'tōst'): toast, usually buttered, served in hot milk with sugar or with salt and pepper. (it's also an old-school comic strip - MilqueToast)
Our definition of Milk Toast is: something 'udderly' boring and blah!
No one likes to see a boring marketing campaign. It wastes their time. Instead of over analyzing data, start being creative. Ideas win!
Are your campaigns Milk Toast?
Here’s a little exercise you may want to try:
- Before launching a campaign, even before testing it against a small audience, test it out on your family during dinner or co-workers in the coffee room and see what happens. Does it spark conversation? If not, it's Milk Toast.
Josh and I try this when we design ads for our clients and also with our own campaigns. Of course we like to test the waters with a small audience of customers before launching full blast.
As part of every marketing campaign, you should run it through the Milk Toast test. If it fails, be creative, come up with something new, put it out there, test and repeat.
Happy Holidays!
