This resin selection challenge came from an engineer in Research & Development at a medical manufacturing company that was looking for a USP Class VI rated, polypropylene random copolymer, with a melt mass flow rate between 8 to 9 g/10min. Her current supplier wasn’t available to help, and she didn’t know where else to turn to find the approved materials she needed.

This resin selection challenge came from a customer at a large OEM. He was looking for an alternative to a Thermocomp grade (RF00AH) but needed an HB or V-0 flame rating with a mold shrink of .3 to .5%. He also wanted a quick way to view this information, along with drying temperature and RoHS compliance.

This resin selection challenge came from a processing engineer at a privately held injection molding company. He was hitting a wall trying to find an injection moldable TPU with a Durometer Shore A hardness between 90 and 95, available in North America. After opening numerous datasheets, he knew there had to be a better way to find the available grades. He contacted us and we were able to find an answer for him within minutes.
Prospector's Property Search is able to do a number of things, and is especially helpful for a search like this where the criteria is well-defined. The most important value in this search was the hardness, so we started in the hardness folder first, selected Shore A, then added the range of 90-95. Next, we moved into the General Properties folder and selected Generic Symbol, then chose TPU-Polyester, as specified by the customer. You could select multiple criteria here if needed.
We were left with about 130 results, which we chose to view. The filter at the top of the page allowed us to narrow by availability, material status, and processing method. We then had around 50 results, but only a handful of manufacturers, which made life a bit easier. We exported the results to Excel and the engineer was able to move on to his next big project.
